An Open Letter to my New Friend

Dear New Friend,

So, we’ve stumbled through some small talk. You’ve had to remind me of your name an embarrassing amount of times. We’re still early days in figuring each other out.

But here’s the thing: we could be each other’s new best friends. It could happen. It’s happened to me before. Regardless, to blatantly misquote The Princess Bride: you seem a decent fellow. I’d hate to miss out on you.

With that said, I’m just going to be super direct here.

I’m only here such a short amount of time. Let’s not waste it.

I don’t want to get to the end of our two years here and feel frustrated with myself for having blown six months to a year that I could’ve been spending as a friend to you. So…

Let’s do this.

Yours with coffee, a very comfortable couch, and an open door policy (oh, and occasionally entertaining children),

Marian

PS There is also tea, for the record. I’m an equal opportunity hot beverage drinker. msf
