An Open Letter to the Perfectionists Among Us (Recovering or Otherwise)

Dear Perfectionist,

Solidarity.

I see you. Most of the time, I see you in the mirror.

No matter where we are in our journey away from perfectionism and towards wholeness, it can only be taken one step at a time. And often, that step is more of a spiritual shove as we try in vain to dig our heels in deeper.

I have no deep words of wisdom. I am trying to remind myself these days that if I was perfect, then I wouldn’t need Jesus…and I don’t think that’s really a place I want to be. But still, I admit that being perfect sounds pretty appealing on a startlingly regular basis.

I hope one day that will change for me.

Yours with a deep desire still for all the gold stars,

Marian
