An Open Letter to the One Whose Day Didn’t Go As Planned

Dear Friend,

Not every day will turn out the way you want it to.

You may not say the words you wish you’d said. You may not do the things you wish you’d done. You may not feel the way you wish you’d feel.

None of that makes you a failure. None of that equates worthlessness.

This month, we like to over quote Anne Shirley, waxing eloquent about Octobers, but we might be better served to remember her more important words, “Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet.”

Or, as a man named Jeremiah once wrote:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

So for tonight, give yourself grace…and go to bed. There are fresh mercies waiting for you in the morning.

Yours with the gentleness that is so hard to give ourselves,

Marian
